Betty Yvonne Simpson, 88, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, in Hereford, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the First Methodist Church at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Rusty Dickerson officiating. A burial will follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. A Family and Friend visitation will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Yvonne was born on January 4, 1936, in Big Spring, Texas to Dwayne and Amelia (Griffice) Ory. She graduated from Stanton High School where she met her high school sweetheart Ray Simpson, they were married on June 11, 1955, in Stanton, Texas. Yvonne and Ray moved to Hereford in 1962. Yvonne worked as a secretary for Shirley School, then for Tierra Blanca School at its start until her retirement in 1995.

Yvonne was an active member of The First Methodist Church in Hereford. She and Ray joined the church shortly after moving to Hereford and that is where many close friendships were formed and sustained through the years. She taught Sunday school for many years as well as serving on a number of committees. She was also a long standing and active member of the Hereford Pilot Club for many years. Yvonne was a wonderfully skilled seamstress, making clothes for herself and for her girls. She made prom dresses, brides maid dresses, and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She enjoyed crafting, and ceramics, and decorating her home. Yvonne loved to travel with her husband Ray and with family and friends. They shared many adventures together over the years. Yvonne enjoyed researching the history and genealogy of her family and published a family history book that she gifted to each member of her family.

Yvonne was determined, hardworking and always willing to step in and help anyone in need. She was kind, generous and truly had a servant's heart. She had a strong love of her family and friends and all were welcome at her home any time.

Those left to cherish her memories are son Carl Simpson of Hereford, Texas; daughters Kim Sliney of Hereford, Texas and Janis Artho and her husband David of Canyon, Texas; grandchildren, Jamie Liles and husband Steven of New Home, Texas, Julie Simpson and Jason Schneider of Amarillo, Texas, Carlie Prewit and husband Charlie of Arlington, Texas, Darren Sliney and wife Irene Kwong of Issaquah, Washington, Kara Sliney and fiancé Tristian Neal of White Oak, Texas, Paula Schwertner and husband Eric of Bushland, Texas, Kayla Talbott and husband Clint of Lubbock, Texas, Shelly Cresap and husband Bryan of Amarillo, Texas; great grandchildren, Parker and Ryder Grace Liles, Avery Lamar, Quinn Prewit, Jake and Lily Sliney, Layken Neal, Brianna, Katelyn, and Gracey Schwertner, Graham and Brady Talbott, Hailey and Ava Cresap; and siblings, Virginia James, Mary Polk, and John Ory.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Dwayne and Amelia Ory, husband Ray Simpson, and son-in-law John Sliney.
