Weldon Stephan

Weldon Stephan, 96, a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel, with his grandson, Pastor Kade Morrison, officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Wednesday, September 24, from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Arrangements and services are entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.

Weldon was born in Hereford, Texas, on December 22, 1928, to Moody and Robbie (Clark) Stephan. He graduated from Hereford High School and later married the love of his life, Betty Robbins, on April 5, 1953, at Avenue Baptist Church in Hereford. Together, Weldon and Betty shared a long and fulfilling life while raising three children.

A farmer at heart, Weldon spent most of his life working the land. He and Betty were faithful, dedicated members of Frio Baptist Church, where Weldon served as the music leader for over 50 years. A gifted musician, he played the guitar and mandolin. In his later years, his passion for music led him to attend South Plains College, where he studied Music Theory to further refine his mandolin skills.

Weldon loved singing, hunting, trap shooting, and was an avid sports fan. He coached Little League baseball, enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, and was a member of the Hereford Gun Club. He was a man of integrity, few words, patience, deep faith, and a steadfast love of family—qualities that defined his life and left a lasting example for all who knew him.

Weldon is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Stephan of Amarillo; their children, Rhonda Childress and husband D. of Amarillo, Jill Morrison and husband Danny of Dalhart, and Chad Stephan and wife Stacey of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Camille Davis (Adam), Wade Childress (Hannah), Hailey LaBlanc (Byron), Kade Morrison (Jena), Karli Burson (Ross), Sophie Stephan, Ayla Stephan, and Tinsley Stephan; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Kinley Davis, Ryker Davis, Zoe Davis, Tate Childress, Cole Childress, Paisley LaBlanc, Kross LaBlanc, Kash LaBlanc, Kreed Morrison, Presli Morrison, Kambell Morrison, and Tytus Morrison. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Moore, and husband Chuck of Bullard, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rose Wright.
