Virginia Estelle (Newell) Winget went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in Hereford, Texas

Visitation will be held from 6-7 pm Friday, July 7, 2017 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Interment will follow at West Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.

Virginia was born December 9, 1921 in Hereford, Texas to Orville and Merlin (Patton) Newell. She finished high school in Hereford and attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas for a short time. Virginia married George Griffith.  The marriage ended when George was killed in WWII.  She married again, to Richard Winget in 1947.  Virginia loved to play cards and dominoes. She was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church, having been a member for 85 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, George Griffith and  Richard Winget; 3 brothers, Bub, Charles, and Gaylord Newell; 2 sisters, Nadine Blanton and Elaine Willoubey.

Those left to honor and cherish Virginia's memory are her sons, Craig Griffith and wife, Nancy of St. Francisville, LA, and Wayne Winget and wife, Marsha of Amarillo, Tx; daughter, Pam Parker of Hereford, TX; 5 grandchildren, Chad Griffith, Shelley Luevano, Chase Parker, Kevin Winget and Jennifer West; 8  great-grandchildren, Baylor, Sember and Piper West, Brady Winget, Brandon and Audrey Parker, Myles and Savannah Luevano.

Memorials may be made to Kings Manor and/or Samaritan Hospice.
