Virginia Ruth Sims, 78, of Hereford, Texas went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be Friday, September 18, 2020 at Avenue Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ellis Parson officiating, burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to the COVID-19 virus only 50 people will be allowed in the funeral home at any one given time. Your health and safety matter to us.

Virginia was born on April 18, 1942 in Littlefield, Texas to Johnnie William and Bonnie Ruth (Strange) Estep. Virginia married the love of her life, Richard Boyd Sims. He was 19 years old and she was 16 years old, madly in love. Richard was working for Pat Schlabs, so Virginia became a farmer's wife. Later in life, she and Richard were able to rent a farm and then years later started buying farms. Their kids grew up loving to farm and the boys never wanted to do anything else. In 1978 Virginia went back to school and received her GED and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She worked for King's Manor Westgate for 31 years. January 23, 2009 Richard fell from his tractor and broke his hip helping her to make the decision to quit her job and stay home to help take care of him.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Richard Sims, Sr. of Hereford and her 3 wonderful children Richard Boyd Sims, Jr., and his wife Melody (Kendrick) of Hereford, Donna Ruth (Sims) Munoz of Amarillo, and Johnnie Wilson Sims and his wife Teresa (Lara) of Hereford. Virginia's siblings Barbara Nazworth, Effie Leinen and her husband John all of Borger, Ben Estep and his wife Tammy, and Sharmin Branin and her husband David all of Panhandle, 3 grandchildren Bobby Boyd Sims and his wife Jodi of Hereford, Steven Lester Sims and his wife Beth of Abilene and Avery Elliot Sims of Hereford. 7 great grandchildren Baylor, Ryan, Tatum, Harmon, Wyatt, Ace and Charlotte Sims and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Virginia is rejoicing in paradise with her grandparents Benjamin Harrison Estep and Lucy Mary (Leckie) Estep, and Charles David Strange & Effie Lou (Yeary) Strange, her parents Johnnie William Estep & Bonnie Ruth (Strange) Estep. Her Brother J.W. Estep, Jr. and his wife Pat (Atwood), as well as beloved family members "Monk" Nazworth, Bennie Munoz, Mike Nazario, and many other treasured family members and friends.
