Tony Abelino Cano, 91, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in Lubbock.

Tony was born on July 25, 1934, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Antonio and Emilia (Garcia) Cano. He has been a resident of Hereford since 1976.

Tony proudly served his country for twenty years in the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam and Korean Wars and earning his rank as Technical Sergeant. After retirement from the military, Tony managed several restaurants in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He liked cooking and keeping everyone in line at the restaurant. He also enjoyed managing the gas station in Hereford and offering all who were thirsty a beer.

Tony was a great dancer and loved listening to music, singing, and playing the guitar. He also loved to gamble, playing slot machines, scratching lottery tickets, and sharing his winnings with those around him.  He was stubborn, forgiving, and always enjoyed a good laugh.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Roberta Romero of Pueblo, Colorado, Anthony Cano of Livermore, California, Cathy Gallegos of Pueblo, CO, and Elizabeth (Bill) Vigil of Pueblo, Colorado; stepchildren, Mary Jane Montoya of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Phyllis (Tom) Montez of Pueblo, Colorado, Geraldine Garcia of Denver, Colorado, Fabiola Ochoa (Steve Phipps), Arturo (Linda) Trevizo, Audenago Trevizo and Asael (Sylvia) Ochoa all of Ft. Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; sister Gloria (Richard) Sanchez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Emilia Cano, wife Josephina Trevizo de Cano, stepson Claudio Ochoa, and seven siblings, Louise Chavez, Edward Cano, Arlene Cano, Ernest Cano, Johnny Cano, Stella Cano, and Jimmy Cano.

A Military Graveside Service honoring Tony will be held at the Angel Fire State Veteran Cemetery in Angel Fire, New Mexico on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM under the direction and care of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.
