Ted Higgins, 97, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in Dimmitt, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Methodist Church of Hereford with Reverend Rusty Dickerson officiating. Burial to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Viewing and Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 5:00 -7:00 P.M.

Ted was born on May 12, 1926, in Hereford to Fred and Catherine (Stinger) Higgins. He was a lifelong resident of Hereford and a 1944 Hereford High School Graduate. Ted served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 as an airplane and engine mechanic and was overseas for the Southern Philippines Liberation.

Ted married Juanita (Frost) Higgins on September 7, 1947, in Hereford. He worked as a lineman and serviceman for Southwestern Public Service Company from 1947 -1987. Ted was a member of the First Christian Church and later the First Methodist Church. He was a volunteer Fireman for the Hereford Fire Department and was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1982. He was a member of the Hereford Lion's Club, Hereford Senior Citizens, President and member of the Pony and Little League Baseball Organization, was Assistant Scout Master for the Boys Scouts, troop 52, and a member of the Good Sams RV Club.

Ted had a servant's heart and loved serving within his community. He was always smiling, pleasant, and kind. He was a hard worker who took pride in his work, keeping his lawn in immaculate condition, tinkering with and restoring things he collected, meticulously organizing his garage and tools, and teaching his family. He loved to help others and was always helpful. He was adored by his grandchildren and loved by his family. When people spoke of Ted it was always honoring and good, true to his character.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Juanita Higgins of Hereford, Texas; two sons, Michael Higgins and his wife Deborah of Amarillo, Texas and Daniel Higgins and his wife Vicky of Hereford, Texas; three grandchildren, Micha Higgins of Pickerington, Ohio, Jeff Higgins and his wife Hollie of Argyle, Texas, and Catherine Wieck and her husband Ryan of Umbarger, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Campbell and Ellyse Higgins, and Callie and Charleigh Bullard; and a sister, Alberta Cantwell of Benson, Arizona.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick Higgins, four brothers, and three sisters.
