On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Sid Shaw passed away in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Hereford, Texas to Lorenzo and Elsie Shaw on August 4, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Louise Jobe, Kathy Weemes, Mary Sue Rogers, and sister-in-law Sherry Talley.  Left to cherish his memory are Susan, his wife of 52 ½ years, son Scott Shaw and wife Candace of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter Stephanie Klecker of Levelland, Texas, grandchildren Luke Klecker, Logan Shaw, and Charlotte Shaw, brother- in- laws Randy Talley of Garland, Texas, Chris White and wife Janis of Fort Worth, Texas, and Chick Weemes of Hereford, Texas, along with many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Hereford High School in 1968, attended West Texas State University, and married in 1972. He began working in the family John Deere business in 1972 and learned every job there was to do before becoming a salesman.  At the selling of White Implement in 1997, he ran Double S Sales and Daylight Donuts.  In 1999 he began serving as the executive director of the Deaf Smith Chamber of Commerce. He was well-suited for this job because he was such a big advocate for everything "Hereford". His legacy remains through such activities as the Tierra Blanca Classic Golf Tournament, the Super Shoot, fireworks shows, the parade of lights, and the beautiful lights in the park each December.

Sid and his family have always been active members of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and member of the adult choir.  He joined the Lions Club in 1973 and served in every office including president and District Governor in 1995.  He received many international awards including the Lions Legacy Award and the Texas State Lions Club Hall of Fame. He served on the YMCA board for many years and as president was instrumental in launching the campaign to build the structure where the Weldon Knabe Activity Center is now housed.  Before being employed by the chamber, he served on the board, was president in 1998, and was awarded citizen of the year in 2017. Because Sid liked to tell stories and jokes, he enjoyed being a member of the Toastmasters Club.

Sid loved spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. Summer vacations in Colorado or New Mexico were always part of his life with children and then with grandchildren.  His favorite pastime was golf, and he looked forward to playing tournaments with the Old Fellers golf group that he organized.  He had so many precious friendships with the folks here in Hereford and his High School buddies.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the First Baptist Church, Hereford, Texas at 11:00 A.M.  The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
