Rudy D. Melendrez, 50, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2021 in Amarillo. Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel in Hereford, Texas, burial to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday, from 2:00 -5:00 P.M. with Rosary being recited at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Due to the COVID -19 virus we ask that everyone attending the viewing, rosary, or funeral service would please wear a mask provided by you. Your health and safety matter to us.

Rudy was born on June 5, 1970 to Felix and Lita (Love) Melendrez in Howell, Michigan. Rudy attended school in Hereford the year of 1986 and 1987.  He then returned to Michigan and graduated from Hart High School in Michigan in 1989. Rudy enlisted in the Army in 1990 and served until 1992, he fought for our country in Desert Storm. He worked as a Limo driver in Michigan, at the prison in Amarillo, and many security jobs over the years as a security officer.  He met Susie in September of 2005 and they fell in love, they were married August 28, 2016. Rudy adored his wife and loved to sing to her, and he adored his children. He loved classic cars, especially, mustangs, the '71 Trans Am, and the 1958 Plymouth Fury. Rudy was fascinated with Native Americans and their traditions; he was proud to say his last name meant famous wolf and felt the wolf was his spirit animal. He enjoyed fishing and collecting guns. Rudy liked to be goofy and make people laugh at the most inconvenient times. He was a unique individual, he marched to the beat of his own drum and did it with a smile and pep to his step. Rudy gave his life to Jesus and was baptized on January 6, 2021.  He was so loved and will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Susie of Amarillo, TX, daughter Veronica Melendrez and son Antonio Melendrez both of Michigan, mother Lita Hanks of Amarillo, TX, sister Lucy Perez of Michigan, and niece Isabella Zuniga and her husband David of Amarillo, TX.

He is preceded in death by his father Felix Melendrez, step-father Paul Hanks, and son William Andrew Paul Melendrez.
