Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Ruben was born on August 30, 1959, in Uvalde, Texas, to Ruben Avilez, Sr., Guadalupe Vara Casarez, and Alfred Casarez. He graduated from Hereford High School and worked for Hereford Independent School District for more than 30 years. He later worked at McDonald’s for 10 years.

He enjoyed family cookouts and barbecues, listening to music, having a cold beverage, and walking his dog, “Puppy.” An avid Broncos football fan, Ruben had also recently taken up fishing with his sister.

Ruben’s presence, smile, and laughter will be missed by all who love him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters: Angie Davila of Hereford; Sylvia Garcia and her husband, Victor, of Hereford; Tina Sanchez and her husband, Miguel Torres, of Amarillo; and Rosie Fierro of Hereford. He is also survived by his nephew Joey Galan of Hereford, who was like a son to him; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, “Puppy.”

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Lupe and Alfred Casarez; his brother, Ricky Casarez; his niece, Raquel Casarez; and his nephew, Leroy Galan.
