Richard Gonzales, 71, of Hereford, Texas passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 in Hereford, Texas. Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, August 31, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Branum officiating. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Monday from 10:00 AM till service time. Due to the COVID-19 virus only 50 people are allowed in the funeral home at any given time. Your health and safety matter to us.

Richard was born February 12, 1949 in Hereford, Texas to Florencio, Sr., and Ramona (Gonzales) Gonzales. Richard attended the Santa Fe, New Mexico School for the Deaf at age 5 till he was 10 years old, he then was transferred to Austin, Texas and attended the Austin School for the Deaf and graduated. Shortly thereafter, he attended a vocational school for welding in Hot Springs, Arkansas and became a welder. He moved back to Hereford and began working for the Hereford Allied Millwright as a welder and worked there for several years. He later moved to Dallas, Texas and began working for Sears & Roebuck as a Warehouse Specialist. Richard worked there for 20 years, never missing a day of work, making Sears & Roebuck his place of retirement. Richard enjoyed dancing, feeling the beat of the music through the vibration on his feet, family gatherings and all sports, but his favorite was the Dallas Cowboys and playing the football squares every chance, he could. Richard treasured every moment spent with his mother.

Those left to cherish his memories are his siblings Jane Alvarez and her husband Jose and Mary Gamboa all of Hereford, Texas; Bertha Hernandez and her husband Joe and Betty Hernandez and her husband Lino all of Duncanville, Texas; Debbie Martinez and her husband Vince and Florencio Gonzales, Jr. and his wife Rilla all of Amarillo and several nieces and nephews.

Richard will be joining his parents and his brother-in-law Fred Gamboa.
