Ramona "Mona" Escobedo, 69, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Ramona was born on May 24, 1956, in San Angelo, Texas, to Albert A. and Ventura (Valdez) Escobedo.  She grew up in Friona, where she met Osvaldo Mejia. They were neighbors and friends as kids; they married in 1983. Ramona and Osvaldo moved to Hereford in 1993, where they raised their four children. Ramona was a devoted member of Casa de Bethel Church for 35 years and served as a Sunday school teacher and as the driver of the church pickup van.  She loved to bake and was famous for her upside-down pineapple cake, banana nut and zucchini bread, peanut butter cookies, and many more delicious desserts. She enjoyed playing solitaire and color block on her phone, watching WWE on Mondays and Fridays, and cheering on the Washington Commanders. She loved her family, grandchildren, and her "chaquitos." They lovingly called her "mom" or "lela," and she never said no to babysitting. Ramona had a golden heart; she was loving, patient, giving, and humble. She was everyone's favorite, and she knew no stranger; all were loved and welcomed. Many friends became like children and were loved and cared for as her own.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ventura Escobedo; husband Osvaldo Mejia in 2020, grandchildren Chassidy Nicole Guerra, baby Rico Cantu, and triplets Christina, Adam and Angelita Mejia, nephews Johnathon Montgomery and Marco Mejia, Jr., niece Amanda Hernandez, in-laws Marcos Mejia, Sr., Eva Mejia, and Tina Mejia, beloved Mark Martinez, and beloved friend JoAnne Flores.

Those left to cherish her memories are her four children, daughter Cynthia Cantu and husband Robert of Amarillo, Texas; sons, Abundio Mejia and wife Cindy of Hereford, Texas, Benjamin Mejia and Joel Mejia both of Amarillo, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and siblings, Amelia Soltero and husband Epifanio of Lubbock, Texas, Albert Escobedo of Jacksboro, Texas, Abraham Escobedo and wife Gloria, Vickie Montgomery of Guymon, Oklahoma, Ida Liza Escobedo of Hereford, Texas, Margarita Tamez and husband Rene of Amarillo, Texas, and Christian Escobedo of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements and Cremation Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.
