Petra Garza, 90, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 13, 2021, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Nestor Lara officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 5:00-8:00PM at the funeral home and Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1:00PM-8:00PM and rosary at 6:30PM at the funeral home.

Petra was born April 22, 1931, in Beeville, Texas to William and Hillary (Rios) Hernandez. Petra has been a resident of Hereford, Texas for 48 years. She and her husband were migrant workers for the primary part of their lives. She later became employed for home health as a caretaker retiring after 12 years. Petra enjoyed cooking, dancing, singing, dressing up for Halloween while she was at the Hereford Nursing and Rehab and always won the prize for best costume, but most of all she loved gambling, playing Bingo and card games and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her friends at Hereford Nursing and Rehab, and they loved her, she will be missed by many.  Petra made friends everywhere she went. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memories ae her children Reynaldo Garza and his wife Angelina of Hereford, Texas, Gregoria Contreras and her husband Johnny of Clovis, N.M., Norma Lucero of Amarillo, Texas, Gloria Garza and her husband Juan Liscano of Hereford, Texas, Petra Ortiz and her husband Joe of Hereford, Texas, Jackie Casarez and her husband Ciro of Hereford, Texas, Diana Gonzalez and her husband Jose Vasquez of Kansas, Arturo Garza of Kansas, Nancy Garza of Hereford, Texas, Alejandro Garza of Hereford, Texas, Sally Valdivia and her husband Luis of Amarillo, Texas and Michelle Guardiola and her husband Chris of Hereford, Texas; 1 sister Armandina Medina of Laredo, Texas; 50 grandchildren, 150 great grandchildren and 32 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Petra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Antonio Garza, her children Alfredo, Armando, Luis and Antonio Hernandez and Herlinda Raymond; her brothers Raymond, William, Juan and Encarnacion Hernandez and her sisters Angela, Hillary, Paula, Carmen and Antonia Hernandez; grandchildren Jay Chavez, Savannah Zepeda, Virgil Lucero, Odie Garza, Armando Balderas, Jr. and Jeremy Lucero; great grandchildren Raven Plasencia and Jasmine Rose Contreras.
