Oscar Perez Charles, 85, a longtime resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in Dimmitt, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Calvary Family Church, with Pastor Ruben Coronado officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the funeral home, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 PM. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Oscar was born on November 17, 1940, in Mexico to Gabriel and Matilde (Charles) Perez. On August 16, 1969, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Menchaca, in Mexico. Together, they built a wonderful life and a beautiful family.

Oscar had lived in Hereford since 1989. His lifelong passion for baking began when he started working in a bakery in Mexico at the age of 12. It was there that he discovered his calling to become a professional baker. He later worked for Ramirez and Sons Tortilla Factory as head baker for four years before opening his own business. Oscar owned and operated El Mana Bakery for 15 years before retiring.

Oscar loved the Lord and was very active in his church. He taught Sunday School, preached on many occasions, and read the Bible many times, including every morning as part of his daily routine.

He enjoyed poetry, playing cards and pool, walking, making people laugh, and being a jokester. Oscar never had a bad day and was always in a good mood. His children said they never saw their dad angry.

Oscar’s presence, laughter, and heart of gold will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Those left to cherish Oscar’s memory include his wife, Elizabeth Perez of Hereford, Texas; his children, Norma Gomez of Cartwright, Oklahoma, Diana Coronado and her husband Ruben, Rosalinda Orozco and her husband Salvador, and Oscar Perez, all of Hereford, Texas.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Odilett Galaviz, Alejandro Gomez, Miguel Coronado, John Coronado, Tommy Coronado, Vanessa Ramos, Oscar Perez, Melinda Perez, Annette Perez, Jacob Perez, Angel Perez, Malachi Perez, and Lilith Perez; eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Dolores “Lola” Perez of Mexico and Alberto Perez of Odessa, Texas.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Jose Angel Perez, Juan Perez, Dora Perez, and Juana Perez; and his son-in-law, Emeterio Gomez.
