Minerva "Minnie" Castro, 60, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, in Hereford, surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Father David Contreras officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Viewing will be on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 12:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M.

Minnie was born on March 9, 1963, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Santos and Emma (Zapata) Garza. She has been a resident of Hereford since 1979. Minnie worked for the Hereford Country Club, Bivins Memorial as a CNA, Kings Manor as a CNA and then for the Adult Day Care, and as a custodian for the Hereford Independent School District. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Minnie enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Tejano music, dancing, crafts, making blankets, and watching her grandchildren play sports.  Minnie was feisty and loved family gatherings and parties. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin, and "the very best mom a person could have."

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Moyces Lamas and his wife Tonya Alejandre, Erik Huerta and his wife Maria, and Carlos Huerta and his wife Teresa all of Hereford, Texas; ten grandchildren, Nahryah Hayes, Audrey Quiroz, Janae Claudio, Ashlynn Lamas, Zayden Elmquist, Mariah Rios, Zeon Escobedo, Giovanni Huerta, Natalie Huerta, and Jazlyn Huerta; great grandson Eisael Gaona; one great grandbaby on the way; siblings, Viola Maldonado of Hereford, Texas, Ruben Garza and his wife Nelda of Ulysses, Kansas, Rita Alejandre and her husband Nestor of Corpus Christi, Texas, Linda Escamilla and her husband David of Robstown, Texas; and Angie Ross of Amarillo, Texas; her dog Daisy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Santos and Emma Garza, daughter April Huerta, and a brother-in-law Jesus Maldonado.
