MILDRED BETZEN

Beloved mother and long-time Hereford resident, Mildred Betzen, passed away at age 96 on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Mildred was born November 26, 1926, grew up on her family's farm in the Dawn community, and graduated from West Texas High School in Canyon. After graduating from Our Lady of Victory College in Fort Worth, she rejoined her family in the Hereford area and met the love of her life, Clarence A. Betzen. Mildred and Clarence married in 1947 and were blessed with almost 70 years together prior to his death in 2017.

Mildred enjoyed life on the farm and serving her family as wife, mother, and homemaker. She was active in various community organizations and was a devoted member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and supporter of St. Anthony's Catholic School. For more than 30 years, she worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. When not serving the needs of others, Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, music, dancing, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and playing bridge.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, by her daughter, Beverly Wegman, by her grandson, Reynolds Myrick, by her parents, Carl and Emma Luke, and by her two sisters, Leona Paetzold and Evelyn Clements.

Mildred is survived by her son Tom and his wife Cheryl of Hereford, her son Wayne and his wife Melody of Canyon, her daughter Sylvia Warren and her husband Dan of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her son, Mark and his wife Kathy of Frisco, Texas, together with eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marcella Hoffman of Hereford. Although Mildred will be dearly missed, her family is comforted that she is reunited with Clarence and her deceased family members and at home with God.

Viewing will be available on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home, 105 Greenwood, Hereford, Texas.

A visitation is scheduled on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at St. Anthony's School in the Antonian Room from 4:00-6:00 PM, and a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM at St. Anthony's School in the Antonian Room at 115 N. 25 Mile Ave., Hereford.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Grant Spinhirne officiating. Burial to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.
