Miguel "Mike" Elizondo Gavina, age 82, passed away in the comfort of his home and beside his beautiful wife on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Good News Church at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor David Alvarado officiating. Burial to immediately follow the funeral at West Park Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Good News Church of Hereford.

Miguel was born on November 1, 1940, in Weslaco, TX, to Marin and Ester Gavina. The family served as migrant workers, often moving from place to place. On May 9, 1960, Miguel married the love of his life Maria Elizabeth Salazar in Clovis, NM. They settled down in Hereford, TX to raise their family of 7 children. Miguel's main priority was to provide for his family and did so working sunup to sundown almost every day. He worked at Caviness Beef Packers for 42 years, and Winget Pump for 10 years. Miguel loved the Dallas Cowboys, preparing for and spending time with loved ones during the Holidays, and being not only a father, but a grandfather as well.

Miguel is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Maria Gavina of Amarillo, TX; his children, Cynthia Ramos and her husband Ramiro of Hobbs, NM, Martha Maes and Quintin of Amarillo, TX, Michael Gavina of Hereford, TX, Norma Stephens and her husband Andrew of Amarillo, TX, Oscar Gavina and his wife Sylvia of Hereford, TX, Liza Balderaz of Amarillo, TX, and Leslie Diaz and her husband Moses of Amarillo, TX; his siblings, Esperanza Lara, Tina Cabarrubia, Elida Prouty, Marvin Gavina, Manuel Gavina, Mickie Gavina, Martin Gavina, Mario Gavina, Mary Garcia. He is also survived by his 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Miguel is preceded in death by his father and mother Marin and Ester Gavina, and sister Esmeralda Sanchez. Miguel will forever be remembered by his hard-work ethic, the love he had for his loved ones, and his love for football. The family would like to express their love and gratitude to the doctors, nurses, family members, and friends who have prayed for him, helped care for him, and simply supported him.
