Michael Carlos Padilla peacefully closed his eyes and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following an illness. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort knowing that Michael is now at peace and resting in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.

Memorial Mass of Cremains will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Vimal Raj Samineedi Amal officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Michael was born on January 10, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas, to Charlie T. Padilla and Antonia Pacheco. He spent most of his life in Hereford, Texas, a community he proudly called home.

Michael married the love of his life, Lupe Hernandez, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 24, 1976. Together, they built a family and were blessed with four children: Melissa and Deven Black of Hereford, Texas; Cynthia Padilla of Amarillo, Texas; and Michael Steven Padilla of Amarillo, Texas.

Family was everything to Michael. He cherished his children deeply and always made time for them. Whether listening to them, watching the latest movie, sharing a meal, or enjoying his favorite green or red chili, Michael treasured the simple moments spent with the people he loved.

Michael had a special love for animals, especially his beloved pets—anything with feathers or fur. His compassion extended to every creature he encountered, and his pets brought him tremendous joy.

Those who knew Michael will remember his joyful spirit and unforgettable sense of humor. He woke each day with a smile and rarely complained, no matter what circumstances he faced. Michael had a gift for making people laugh. A simple conversation could quickly turn into a funny story, an unexpected adventure, or another one of Michael’s “crazy ideas” that would become a family story told for years to come.

He had a unique personality that could brighten a room and make people feel welcome. Family and friends cherished the time they spent with him because Michael had a way of creating memories wherever he went. His laughter, stories, humor, and loving spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Michael attended St. Anthony’s School and graduated from Hereford High School. He dedicated many years of service to Hereford Regional Medical Center, where he worked as a janitor until his retirement.

Michael leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Lupe Hernandez; his children, Melissa and Deven Black, Cynthia Padilla, and Michael Steven Padilla; and his siblings, Gloria Hernandez of Amarillo, Texas; Manuel Romero of Amarillo, Texas; Vera and Albert Elevario of Santa Rosa, New Mexico; and Joseph Anthony and Patricia Chavez of Tucson, Arizona.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rudolpho and Arcelia Pacheco; his parents, Antonia Romero and Charlie T. Padilla; his beloved daughter, Angelique Padilla; and his brother, Rudy Padilla.

Although Michael is no longer with us in body, his laughter will continue to echo through the stories we tell, his love will live on through his family, and the memories he created will remain forever in our hearts.

We will miss his smile. We will miss his laughter. We will miss his crazy ideas and unforgettable stories.

We will miss the love he gave so freely. But most of all, we will miss Michael—the husband, father, brother, grandfather, family member, friend, and one-of-a-kind soul who could make an ordinary day memorable.

Until we meet again, may you rest peacefully in the presence of your Lord and Savior.
