Melecio Franco Urias, 78, of Amarillo, Texas passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022, from this life to his eternal life in heaven surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 13. 2022 at 11:00 AM at Good News Church with Pastor David Alvarado officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Hereford, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 2:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home with a prayer service from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Melecio, or Poni as many knew him, was born in Fort Stockton, Texas on October 23, 1943, to Elias Urias Sr. and Andrea Franco Urias. His family moved to Hereford, Texas in 1957. He proudly served his country in the United Stated Army (1963-1966), where he met his lifelong friend, Richard Smith. He later married his best friend and the love of his life, Eva Mungia, on February 23, 1967. In 1987, he relocated his wife and children to Amarillo, Texas.
Melecio was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He greatly loved his Lord and his family. He was a very generous man, and his greatest passion was caring for his children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and playing golf, especially in the family's Annual Sweetheart tournament. He had a great sense of humor and was always joking around with family and friends. He was a carpenter by trade and had his own construction business for many years. His woodworking skills were remarkable, and his tile jobs were always done to perfection. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife and children, Jacqueline Urias of Amarillo, TX, Johnny Urias and wife Sonya of Lubbock, TX, Marcus Urias and wife Irene of Hereford, TX, Anthony Urias and husband Sammy of Amarillo, TX, Jennieke Barrientez and husband Edward of San Angelo, TX, Ronnie Estrada and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren Alexandra Leiva, Andrew Rivera, Amber Baltazar and husband Benji, Derek Urias, Johnathan Urias, Brayden Urias, Briana Gaytan and husband Andrew, Christopher Urias, Lance Estrada, and RJ Estrada; great-grandchildren Xzavion, Melody, Erin, Zayden, Jayvian, Jazlyn, Isaiah, Zaryan, Adalynn, Kingston, Aria, and Maddie; siblings Ercilia Lafuente, Mary Drake, Eloy Urias, Ismael Urias, Lionel Urias, Yolanda Gavina, Diana Mendiaz, Nora Pesina, and JoAnn Ramirez; and numerous nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
Melecio was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Baudilio Franco and Elias Urias Jr., and nephew Timothy Urias.
Our hearts rejoice for our dad because he is in the arms of our Heavenly Father, but also heavy because we no longer hold him in ours. We greatly appreciate Caitlyn, Misty, Sis, Clarissa, and Randy from Kindred Hospice for the care and support they provided him in his final days and for consoling and counseling the family through the process.
