Maria Oliva Penaran, 65, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 10:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Ramon Molina officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Guanjuato, Mexico. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Maria was born May 28, 1956, in Panales, Jamaica, Mexico to Avelino and Anita (Molina) Puentes. She has been a resident of Hereford for 10 years. She married Jose Penaran on April 29, 1979, in Mexico. Maria took pride in raising her children and caring for her husband. Maria was a wonderful cook, some of her specialty dishes were gorditas, tamales and enchiladas. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and spending time with her family here in Hereford and with her family in Mexico. She enjoyed vacationing to her home in Mexico and taking care of her family there. Maria enjoyed knitting, tending to her plants, embroidering by hand, and sewing.  Maria was a member of San Jose Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Jose Penaran of Hereford, Texas, her mother Anita Molina of Mexico, her children Juan Manuel Penaran and his wife Veronica of Friona, Texas, Olivia Penaran and her husband Jorge Gonzalez, Jose Penaran and Alfredo Penaran and his wife Berenice all of Hereford, Texas; her siblings Roberto Puentes and his wife Cecilia, Juana Puentes and her husband Juan, and Jose Luis Puentes all of Mexico, and Josephina Puente and her husband Arturo Rivera of Hereford, Texas; 12 grandchildren Fatima, Manuel, Vanessa and Alexa Penaran, Jade and MaryAnn Penaran, Annahi Vivianna Gonzalez, Alina Victoria Gonzalez, Jason Gonzalez, Alfredo Penaran, Abel Penaran and Logan Penaran.

Maria is preceded in death by her father Avelino Puentes and 2 sisters Guadalupe and Abelina Puentes.
