Maria Julia Lancon, 68, of Hereford, Texas passed away Friday, September 20, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Calvary Family Church with Pastor Ruben Coronado officiating, burial will follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Prayer service will be Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Maria was born July 17, 1951 in Oaxaca, Mexico to Clemente Luis and Adelina (Gonzales) Alavez. Maria has been a resident of Hereford since 1977. She married Roberto Lancon on March 10, 1972. She worked at Casa Ramirez Tortilla Factory in Hereford for 9 years, she then worked at Juanita's Burrito Express for 10 years and her latest employment was at Hereford Junior High in the cafeteria for 8-9 years. Maria enjoyed cooking, her favorite dishes were tamales and menudo; she enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers and trees, her children say that she had a green thumb, she liked to watch novelas and enjoyed shopping, being a great negotiator, but her greatest love and joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family, having family cook-outs and gatherings. Maria was a faithful member of Calvary Family Church of Hereford.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Roberto Oldin Lancon, Jr. of Hereford, TX., three sons Robert Oldin Lancon, Jr. and his wife MaryAnn of Amarillo, TX., Roy Lancon and his wife Melissa of Hereford, TX. and Ruben Lancon and his wife Charlene of Arlington, TX.; one sister Elvira Gonzales of Oaxaca, Mexico and one brother Lorenzo Gonzales of Yuma, AZ.; eleven grandchildren Hailey, Brittany, Stephanie, Gabrielle, Jennifer, Timothy, Katie, Brandon, Destiny, Elijah and Alyssa and eight great grandchildren.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents.
