Maria Alvina Garza, 76, of Longmont, CO, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at her residence. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Mendez & Mullins Family Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at La Iglesia de San Jose with Reverend Jose Ramon Molina Mora, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Mendez & Mullins Family Funeral Home in Hereford, TX.

Maria Alvina was born on July 8, 1940 in Weslaco, TX to Jacinto and Maria Garcia Cruz. She married Jose Del Rio Garza on July 16, 1965. She moved to Platteville, CO in 1971 from Hereford, TX, and to Longmont in 2013. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was very active following her three boys, nieces and nephews and others to all their sporting events and was "Mom" to everyone. Alvina was a very compassionate and caring individual, she was a caregiver for 7 individuals providing cleaning, cooking, companionship and end of life care. Alvina was also a clown for the El Jebel Shrine, participating in events at Children's and Veterans hospitals to brighten up the patients. Her food was her legacy, was loved by all that came into her home and never left with an empty stomach. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Parish in Platteville, CO.

Preceded in death by her parents, Jacinto and Maria Cruz, husband, Jose Garza, 3 brothers, Ruben Cruz, Rene Cruz, and Reymundo Cruz.

Survived by 3 Sons: John Garza and wife, Char of Longmont, CO, Joe Garza of Longmont, CO, and Jamie Garza and wife, Honna of Tacoma, WA

3 Brothers: Raul "Bully" Cruz and wife, Gloria of Hereford, TX, Ramiro Cruz and wife, Martha of Alvin, TX, and Rolando Cruz and wife, Olivia of San Angelo, TX

3 Sisters: Janie Gonzalez and husband, Santos of Amarillo, TX, Lela Cruz and husband, Felipe of Hereford, TX and Sarah Marco
