Maria Garcia, 80, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Amarillo, surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with celebrant Grant Spinhirne. Arrangements and Cremation Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. A family and friend visitation will be on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home, with the rosary recited at 6:00 pm.

Maria was born on October 31, 1944, in Weslaco, Texas, to Ramon Guzman Castillo and Mercedes Castillo. She married Frank Garcia on July 23, 1968, in Hereford. Maria worked for the Swift Meat Packing Plant, DPS, White Energy, Hereford Regional Medical Center, Kings Manor, Hereford Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Regence Health Clinic. She was a devoted member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Maria was a hard worker, enjoying her jobs throughout the years and known to many as "Little Mary" or "Ms. Mary."  She worked hard caring for her yard, flower beds, and garden. Maria liked to go to the movies and watch her favorite TV shows, Little House on the Prairie, Mash, and Westerns; John Wayne and Chuck Norris were two of her favorite actors. She was an enthusiastic Denver Broncos Fan and a collector of Star Wars baby Yoda. She loved the color purple, wearing bright colors and patterns, and going shopping at Walmart. Maria loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loving, onery, independent, and fun, often saying her favorite phrase, "I don't care."

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Jeannette Garcia Marquez and Frank Terry Garcia both of Hereford, Texas; ten grandchildren, Matthew Marquez (Vanessa), Andrew  Marquez (Brittney), Amber Marquez, Jordan Garcia (Ally), Mary Jane Martinez, Nathan Garcia (Angelica), Dametrie Garcia, Zaylynn Garcia, Liam Ruiz, and Kyrie Garcia; eleven great-grandchildren, Aubrey Lucio, Jayce Marquez, Jayden Marquez, Adalyn Lucio, Braedyn Marquez, Austin Lucio, Ashton Marquez, Paige Marquez, Paisley Marquez, Zachary Marquez, and Ellie Garcia; siblings, Carmen Cervantez (Jesse) of Hereford, Texas, Rosie Sanchez (Richard) of Kress, Texas, Judy Montez (Joe) of Raymondville, Texas, and Roy Castillo (Lupe) of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Guzman Castillo and Mercedes Castillo, husband Frank Garcia, son Jerry Garcia, sisters Yolanda Aguilar and Blanca Juarez, and brothers Dionsio Castillo, Mike Castillo, Raymond Castillo, Israel Castillo, and Luis Castillo.
