Maria Cano, 94, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Canyon, Texas, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Father David Contreras officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 PM with the rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Arrangements and Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Maria was born on April 9, 1930, in Mercedes, Texas to Julian and Anita (Fernandez) Garcia. She moved to Hereford in September 1957.  Maria married Reyes Cano on September 23, 1964, in Hereford. Maria was a devoted catholic who faithfully prayed the holy rosary. In her earlier years as a parishioner in Hereford, she memorized many speeches. These were later recited from memory at Cursillo events. Maria was a member of San Jose Catholic Church in Hereford and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon. She enjoyed sewing, canning vegetables, working, and caring for her family. Maria was a strong, outgoing, generous woman with many friends and was ready to give what she had to those in need even if she went without. After the passing of her husband Reyes, Maria enjoyed traveling to see her family and stopping at antique shops along the way. Maria loved her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memories are, son Reyes Cano, Jr. and wife Daphne of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Mary Jane Cano and husband Efrain of Hereford, Texas, Gloria Aguilar and husband Arnold of Brighton, Colorado, and Patricia Cano of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters Eva Rodriguez and husband Guillermo of Mercedes, Texas, Esther Villarreal of Harlingen, Texas, and Gloria Sepulveda and husband Martin of McAllen, Texas; brothers Juan Garcia and Luis Garcia both of Harlingen, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents Julian and Anita Garcia, husband Reyes Cano, Sr., daughter Anna Maria Balboa, son Oscar Balboa, sisters Juanita Garcia, Guadalupe Barnhart, and Elida Garza; and brother Raulito Garcia.

María Cano, de 94 años, de Hereford, Texas, falleció el martes 4 de marzo de 2025 en Canyon, Texas, rodeada de su familia. La Misa de Entierro Cristiano se llevará a cabo el viernes 7 de marzo de 2025 a las 10:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica de San José con el Padre David Contreras oficiando. El velorio se llevará a cabo el jueves 6 de marzo de 2025 de 5:00 a 8:00 p.m. con el rezo del rosario a las 6:00 p.m. Los arreglos y servicios han sido confiados a la funeraria Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home de Hereford, Texas.

María nació el 9 de abril de 1930 en Mercedes, Texas, hija de Julián y Anita (Fernández) García. Se mudó a Hereford en septiembre de 1957.  María se casó con Reyes Cano el 23 de septiembre de 1964 en Hereford. María era una católica devota que rezaba fielmente el santo rosario. En sus primeros años como feligresa en Hereford, memorizó muchos discursos. Más tarde se recitaban de memoria en los eventos de los Cursillos de Cristiandad. María era miembro de la Iglesia Católica de San José en Hereford y de la Iglesia Católica de Santa Ana en Canyon. Le gustaba coser, enlatar verduras, trabajar y cuidar de su familia. María era una mujer fuerte, extrovertida, generosa con muchos amigos y estaba dispuesta a dar lo que tenía a los necesitados, incluso si se quedaba sin nada. Después del fallecimiento de su esposo Reyes, a María le gustaba viajar para ver a su familia y detenerse en tiendas de antigüedades en el camino. María amaba a su familia y era una madre y abuela maravillosa.

Los que quedan para atesorar sus recuerdos son su hijo Reyes Cano, Jr. y su esposa Daphne de San Antonio, Texas; sus hijas Mary Jane Cano y su esposo Efraín de Hereford, Texas, Gloria Aguilar y su esposo Arnold de Brighton, Colorado, y Patricia Cano de Austin, Texas; 13 nietos; 30 bisnietos; 8 tataranietos; las hermanas Eva Rodríguez y su esposo Guillermo, de Mercedes, Texas, Esther Villarreal, de Harlingen, Texas, y Gloria Sepúlveda y su esposo Martin, de McAllen, Texas; los hermanos Juan García y Luis García, ambos de Harlingen, Texas.

Le preceden en la muerte sus padres Julián y Anita García, su esposo Reyes Cano, Sr., su hija Anna María Balboa, su hijo Oscar Balboa, sus hermanas Juanita García, Guadalupe Barnhart y Elida Garza; y el hermano Raulito García.
