Maria G. Barrientos, 77, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Ramon Molina officiating, burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin on Monday, July 24, 2023, from 2:00-8:00 PM and on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM with rosary at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Maria was born on December 12, 1945, in Edinburg, Texas, to Jesus and Guadalupe (Hernandez) Garcia. Maria has been a resident of Hereford, Texas, for 63 years. She married the love of her life Felix G. Barrientos on June 12, 1962, in Springfield, CO. Maria was a receptionist at the Hereford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and prior to this position she was in their dietary department for many years. Maria enjoyed playing bingo, lotería, playing the slots at casinos, singing, dancing, traveling, and cooking her famous tortillas and tamales for her family. Maria was a devout and very active Catholic, saying the rosary daily and her faith was unwavering. She loved and cherished her family tremendously; she never walked away from them without saying, "I love you." She was always there to give good advice, loved her children and grandchildren and was known for being the coolest grandmother and aunt. She will be missed dearly by many.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Elvira Barrientos and her husband Tomas, Esmeralda Dominguez and her husband Merejildo, Melinda Ortiz and her husband Arturo, Angie Flores and her husband Tony, Diana Dominguez and her husband Erasmo all of Hereford, Texas, Felicita Rodriguez and her husband Marcos, Felix Barrientos, Jr. and his wife Carla all of Amarillo, Texas, Laura Trevino and her husband Michael and Javier Barrientos and his wife Jennifer all of Hereford, Texas; her siblings, Simona Martinez, Janie Galan and her husband Pete, Elijio Garcia and his wife Esperanza all of Hereford, Texas, Jesus Garcia of Lubbock, Texas, and Raymond Garcia of Potterville, CA.; 39 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Felix G. Barrientos, her son, Felix Barrientos, her granddaughter, Olivia Escobedo, her grandson, Abraham Barrientos, her great grandson, Rodrick Christopher Mendoza, and her siblings, Paula Rodriguez, Ramona Nanez, Amelia Garcia, Concepcion Garcia, Vicente Garcia and Savas Garcia.
