Margarita Aguirre Valdez, 97, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Ramon Molina officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 2:00-8:00 PM with vigil and rosary at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Margarita was born on December 2, 1924, in Artiaga, Coahuila, Mexico, to Rumaldo and Herminia (Cepeda) Aguirre. She married the late Felipe Valdez on May 8, 1948, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. She was a schoolteacher while she lived in Mexico. When Margarita became a resident of Hereford, she worked for the Cayson House for many years. She enjoyed cooking, especially her tamales, gardening every morning, spending time with her family, listening to music, eating snacks, playing bingo, and many other activities at the nursing home. Margarita raised chickens and roosters, and her family talks about her making her homemade chicken soup from her farm raised chickens. Margarita was a simple woman with strong work ethics, teaching her sons the meaning of hard work. She was loved dearly by her family and will be missed.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children Alicia Valdez of Hereford, Texas, Raul Valdez and his wife Mary, and George Valdez and his wife Stella all of Hereford, Texas; eleven grandchildren Chris Martinez, Julie Hernandez, Daniel Valdez, Gonzalo Lira, Jr., Leo Lira, Magali Montes, George Valdez, Jr., Elizabeth Sierra, Ricky Valdez, Albert Valdez, and Carolyn Valdez, and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Margarita is preceded in death by her parents Rumaldo and Herminia Aguirre, her husband Felipe Valdez, a grandson Raul (Flako) Valdez, Jr., two brothers Alfonso and Raul Aguirre and a sister Agrepina Aguirre.
