Margaret Gamez, 88, a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, September 8, 2025, at her home in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Misión de San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Monsignor Arturo Meza officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 PM and rosary at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Margaret was born on September 3, 1937, in San Angelo, Texas, to Fernando and Pilar (Rivera) Gonzales. Margaret has been a resident of Hereford since 1949. She was a strong woman until the very end- smart, resourceful, and never one to tolerate nonsense and instilled in her children to live by these attributes. She lived with a rare combination of strength and warmth. She gave of herself without hesitation, always putting the needs of others before her own. She loved to bake cakes and many other wonderful Mexican dishes, always preparing for her children, grandchildren and family and to others who were in need or struggling. Her love was steady, her generosity boundless, and her spirit unshakable. To know Margaret was to know resilience, honesty, and deep care. She prayed often for her family and many others who needed prayer.  Margaret was a member of San Jose Catholic Church; and assisted the Guadalupana's and volunteered with the Red Cross. Though she has left us, her example of strength and selflessness will continue to guide and inspire us. Margaret's beautiful, classy presence, her genuine smile and bighearted spirit will be missed by all who love her.

Those left to cherish and treasure her memories are her children, Debbie Gonzalez and her husband Armando of Hereford, Texas, Horacio Gamez of Austin, Texas, Silvana Vessel of Hereford, Texas, Bernadina Gamez of Amarillo, Texas, and Vonnie Gamez of Hereford, Texas; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; four siblings, Yolanda Guerrero and her husband Vicente of Hereford, Texas, Raul Gonzales and Jose Gonzales and his wife Grace all of Dublin, Texas, and Juanita Castillo of Hereford, Texas, and a daughter from another mother, Mailyn Casado of Hereford, Texas.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Isaias Gamez, her daughter, Eleanor Rocha, five siblings, Sara Griego, Catherine Celaya, Lorina Estrada, Gloria Arsola and Fernando Gonzales, Jr., two sons-in-law, Darrel Vessel and Vincent Ramos.
