Dr. Marcus Andrew Hoelscher, 92, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Dimmitt, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Grant Spinhirne officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M.

Dr. Marcus Andrew Hoelscher was born on September 11 ^th , 1930, in Westphalia, Texas to Andrew and Albertina (Smetana) Hoelscher. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Rowena, Texas as the President of his senior class. Due to his involvement in 4-H throughout his school career, he received a scholarship allowing him to be the first in his family to attend college at Texas A&M University. While at A&M, he was a member of the Winters and San Angelo A&M Club. He proudly graduated with both a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Education and a Masters Degree in animal Husbandry. After graduation from A&M, he married MaryDee Hoelscher on January 29 ^th , 1955.

Marcus went on to receive his Doctorate in Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry at South Dakota State University. Following graduation, he worked in various cities across the midwest as a nutrition consultant for feed yards. He held the following titles: President of Standard Chemistry, President of Famous Molasses Feed Co. and Plant, and President of Optimist Club. He enjoyed a rich career as he and MaryDee traveled to places around the world, such as Amsterdam, South Africa, and Germany, while he was a nutrition consultant for Pfizer.

He chose Hereford, Texas as his home, where he continued consulting and began writing his "Feedyard Summary," published in Feedstuffs Magazine, Livestock Weekly, and the Weekly Livestock Reporter. He was also President of Rotarian Club, Director of Hereford Country Club, Member of Knights of Columbus Counsel 4 ^th Degree, President of St. Anthony's School Board, Commander of Civil Air Patrol, Member of Deaf Smith Co. Farm Bureau, Member of U.S.A.A. Retired Military, and Member of Federal Land Bank Federation, and nominated for membership of the American Chemical Society. After twenty years of service, Marcus honorably retired as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Together, MaryDee and Marcus reared three sons, Randy, Richard, and Ted. He spent his free time hunting, fishing, and with his loved ones.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, MaryDee Hoelscher of Hereford, Texas; sons Randal Hoelscher of Winters, Texas and Ted Hoelscher and his wife Emma of Hereford; grandchildren, Roger Gonzales of San Antonio, Chris Hoelscher and his wife Kirrie of Amarillo, Texas, Alyssa Arias and her husband Luis of Lubbock, Texas, and Emily Hoelscher of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one great-grandson Banning Hoelscher; sister Delphine Schwertner of St. Simons Island, Brunswick, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Hoelscher, daughter-in-law Dorie "Dodie" Hoelscher, and sister Julia Hoelscher.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the St. Anthony's School Endowmnet Fund, 114 Sunset Dr., Hereford, Texas.
