Luz "Lucy" Ignacia Caballero (July 28, 1970 – March 12, 2024) lived a life full of love and passion.  A beautiful, intelligent woman with a secret goofy side and a generous and kind heart, she made sure that the people she loved knew how much they meant to her.  Her lifelong spouse, Robert, adored her as she adored him and together they, in turn, raised and doted on their two sons, Cristian and Benjamin. She also loved and cherished her step-daughter Samantha.  She was cherished by her siblings, Oscar, Lily, and Anna, and their children who knew Lucy as a beloved aunt.  She left them all with many treasured memories.

Lucy was born in Dumas, Texas to Artemio and Eva Cano and was raised in Stratford, Texas.  She graduated from Stratford High School before enrolling in West Texas A&M where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology and moved to Hereford, Texas. Hereford was home for the next 34 years.

With her Biology degree and her love of children to guide her, Lucy become an Earth science teacher for Hereford Junior High.  Teaching became her passion for 18 years until she decided to change careers and became a school librarian where she could serve the children in a different way.

Lucy loved chocolate, reading, children, gardening, and taking care of her family and friends. She was an interesting, playful, complex person with charming quirks and loveable attributes.  Lucy spent her life with generosity, forgiveness, and kindness, and passed it on to all the lives she touched. Those who knew and loved her will continue to pass the torch. This is her legacy.

Lucy passed away in her home on March 12, 2024, and is survived by her sons, Cristian and Benjamin, her step-daughter Samantha and her spouse, Robert. She will continue on in the hearts of all who loved her.

She leaves her sons with true adoration, a hard work ethic, a sharp sense of humor, and compassion for all.  To Robert she leaves her treasured sons and unfathomable love.  She was a privilege to know for all who knew her.
