Luz Balderaz Baca, 68 of Portales, New Mexico, formerly of Hereford, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 19, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Nestor Lara officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Rosary will be Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Luz was born June 4, 1953, in Acuña Coahuila, Mexico, to Juan and Aurora (Samaniego) Balderaz. Luz was a resident of Hereford for 4 years and later moved to Portales, New Mexico, and has resided there for more than 20 years. She was a wonderful beautician for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Portales Catholic Church; she enjoyed baking and cooking her amazing Mexican pecan candy for her family and friends. Luz loved knitting hats, mittens and scarves for her nieces and great nieces, she also enjoyed fixing their hair in many different crazy styles. Luz was a collector of unique rocks; she had a green thumb for gardening and flowers and adored Tom Selleck. She never let the stray cats around her house go hungry. Luz loved to dance to all types of music; she loved her grandchildren and so enjoyed babysitting them, she loved her daughter-in-law, who she was always saying how nice Tiffany was to her. More than any of these hobbies and enjoyments of life, Luz loved her only child, her son, Liborio, she made many sacrifices for him and always made sure he was taken care of. Luz was always grateful for ex-husband, Liborio, Sr. They both took care of each other till the very end.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Liborio Baca, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Portales, New Mexico; her siblings, Patricia Vigil of Amarillo, Texas, Juan Balderaz, Jr. and his wife Sophia of Hereford, Texas, Luis Balderaz of Amarillo, Texas, Angel Balderaz of Canyon, Texas, Gabriel Balderaz and his wife Esmeralda of Virginia, Sam Balderaz of Hereford, Texas, and Benjamin Balderaz of Amarillo, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Estrella Luz Baca and Alessandro Liborio Baca.

Luz is preceded in death by her parents and her fur Pomeranian baby, Reba.
