Lois Matchett, 92, a longtime resident of Hereford, Texas, peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in Amarillo.  A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Jacob Larra officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 1:00 PM up until service time at the First Baptist Church.

Lois was born on September 30, 1932, in Rule, Texas, to James Crawford and Ada Melinda (Hurt) Allison. Lois attended and graduated from West Texas University with her bachelor's and master's degree. She married the love of her life Robert Matchett on September 2, 1955, in Rule, Texas.  Lois took much pride in caring for her children and her husband until his death in 1974.  She was employed at the Hereford Independent School District for 26 years as the High school librarian, retiring in 1999. In 2014-2015, Lois was awarded the Hereford Fan of the Year, she truly loved the Whitefaces.  Lois was a member of First Baptist Church since 1972 and served as the church treasurer for many years.  She was a member of Retired Teachers Association, the La Plata Study Club, and PED for many years.  She enjoyed sewing, traveling the world, from Hawaii to Europe and numerous other destinations. She was fond of playing 42 and bridge with her friends, and she truly loved going to all her grandchildren's activities and spending time with them and her siblings. Lois' presence, smile, and laughter will be missed by all who loved her dearly.  Lois was known as a second mom to many of her son's friends who she thought the world of.

Those left to remember and cherish her memories are her son, Rick Matchett and his wife Denise of Odessa, Texas, a son-in-law, Carl Gibson of Guymon, OK., two grandchildren, McKay McEowen and husband Jonathan of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Brandt Matchett and wife Jenny of Stafford, Texas along with three great-grandchildren, Weston McEowen, Whit McEowen and Ellie Matchett.

Family that preceded her in death are her parents, James Crawford Allison and Ada Melinda (Hurt) Allison, daughter, LaJuana Gibson, eight brothers, four sisters, eight sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
