Lewis B. Barnett, referred to as "Barney" by many, passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 77 years old in Hereford.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Timberlake officiating on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 3:00 P.M.  Cremation and arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home in Hereford.

Lewis was born on March 8, 1947, in Hereford, Texas but wasted no time to get to Hereford where he spent his early life graduating from Hereford High School Class of '65.  After high school he went off to college but was soon drafted and was sent to serve in the Vietnam War.  He was a proud and respected veteran and earned a Purple Heart for his service.

He married Linda Rickman in 1978 and was blessed with two sons, R. Chip Barnett and Trey Brody Barnett.  Raising his family in Hereford where he was raised, Lewis was the son of Dr. Lewis Barnett (L. B. Barnett) who was one of the original founders of Hereford Medical Clinic that opened its doors in 1948 at Fourth and Miles Streets in Hereford.

Lewis was a Jack-of-All-Trades and could do anything he put his mind to.  Once Lewis had his mind set on something, he was going to finish it (sometimes with a little bit of encouragement).  His two boys will carry on his legacy with every lesson that he instilled in them.   It was always his way or no way.

Lewis was quite a jokester and always had one to share or a story to entertain you.  He had a crazy wit that would make you laugh until you cried.  He had no particular hobbies other than making people laugh, but enjoyed watching all the old western movies in his spare time.  His work career was in the agriculture industry selling Ritchie water fountains and at the feedyard and sale barn in Hereford.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Chip Barnett of Logan, New Mexico and Trey Barnett of Hereford; his stepchildren, Darla Newton of Hereford and Brent Newton and wife, Amy of Amarillo; his loving niece, Michelle Hegtvedt of Austin, Texas.

Those preceding him in death are his parents, L. B. and Doris Barnett; and his sisters, Beverly Barnett and Jennifer Marshall.
