Leon Whitson, passed away on June 6, 2024, at the age of 69 years old. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ken Varner officiating on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.  Cremation and Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral home of Hereford.

Leon was born to his loving parents, Richard Whitson and Betty (Hearn) Whitson on April 18, 1955, in Jerome, Idaho. He was a long-time resident of Hereford; he attended Hereford High where he met the love of his life Sherry. The two high school sweethearts got married and together created a family and were blessed with two loving sons, Larry and William.

Leon was a very hard worker and had a very strong work ethic, instilling much of his hard work into his children. Leon loved two things in life and that was rodeoing and truck driving. He was a master mechanic and was known for his talented skills. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors, he would sit on his couch and watch western movies and relax in his spare time. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke up his sleeve to share just to make others smile.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his children, Larry Whitson and his wife Jessica, William Whitson all of Hereford, Texas; his grandson, Kelton Whitson; his caring sisters, Claudine McElroy, Clive Weaver and his wife Debbie all of Amarillo, Texas, Donna Garton and her husband Phil of Hollis, Oklahoma, Pam Whitson of Amarillo, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him in passing are his parents, Richard and Betty Whitson; his loving wife, Sherry Whitson; his sisters, Marsha Sharp, Kay Shipp.
