Larry "Pops" Walterscheid, 81, of Hereford, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 28, 2020 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Celebrant John Valdez, the mass will be livestreamed on Mendez and Mullins' Facebook page, burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Rosary will be Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 PM. Family and friends can come by the funeral home beginning Friday at 1:30 PM to pay your respects to Larry. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Due to the mandates that have been placed on several businesses and the funeral homes because of the COVID-19 virus, there will only be 10 people allowed to attend the rosary, the mass and the committal service at the cemetery. The Walterscheid family is asking those to please recite the rosary, wherever you should be, at 6:00 PM on Friday and if you're not of Catholic faith, please say a prayer in memory of Larry.

Larry was born November 8, 1938 in Muenster, Texas to Frank and Elizabeth (Loerwald) Walterscheid. Larry has been a lifelong resident of Hereford. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 13, 1962 and served until July 16, 1967. Larry was a farmer and a crop insurance agent most of his life. He married Randy Reed on January 23, 1998. He was a past member of the Hereford Lion's Club, Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Larry loved playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren and family; cook-outs and working in his yard.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Randy "Memaw" Walterscheid of Hereford, four sons Eric Walterscheid and his wife Deborah of Amarillo; Kent Walterscheid and his wife Angela of Prosper, Texas; Jason Walterscheid and his wife Callie of Panhandle, Texas and Homer Hamilton and his wife Kyla of Amarillo; four daughters Kristin Will and her husband David of Amarillo; Leslie Barrett of Lubbock; Tamara Ritchey and her husband Stacey and Kasi Jannson and her husband Tucker all of Amarillo; two brothers Kenneth Walterscheid and his wife Regina of McAllen, Texas; Leonard Walterscheid and his wife Opal of Hereford and three sisters Betty Shuvalov of Pflugerville, Texas; Doris Welch of Amarillo and Jeanette Rogers of Hereford; 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a host of wonderful friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Vincent, Richard and Butch Walterscheid.
The Walterscheid family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Raquel Balderaz, Samaritan Hospice, Brinda Reyna and Audrey Enriquez.

The Walterscheid family has requested that any family or friends that will not get to attend the service due to the limited amount of people who can attend, due to the COVID-19 virus, if you would like to line up your vehicles on Ranger Street beginning at Northwest Elementary school all the way down Ranger, at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, March 28, 2020, as the family processes to the cemetery. Your presence there and a kind wave of your hand would mean so much to the Walterscheid family.
