Katherine Rogers Smith passed from her earthly home in Friona, Texas, into her Heavenly reward on May 23, 2025, having packed much into 105 years of life well lived.  She was born February 8, 1920. She was listening to 10000 Angels and Great is Thy Faithfulness as she left this earthly body.

Her graveside service will be Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Friona Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Procter and Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

She grew up in Ochiltree County of the Texas Panhandle and upon graduation lived in Amarillo until she met and married her husband Hoyt in 1939.  They built a home 15 miles NW of Friona where they farmed and lived with their four children near other Smith families.  In 1956 Hoyt built his family a home in Friona as they became more involved with church and school activities. Friona and the Methodist church always held a special place in her heart.

After their daughter Linda's death in 1991 and Hoyt's in 1996, Katherine lived an independent life until 2006 when she made the decision to move to Kings Manor Retirement Home in Hereford.  She made friends easily and stayed involved helping and encouraging others. When Kings Manor closed, she moved to a lovely retirement home in Dimmitt, Country View Living, where special friends had moved.  In 2023, she broke a hip and wanted to move and rehab at Friona's Prairie Acres Nursing Home, where she renewed friendships with many from her past.  She was blessed by caring care givers, family, and great friends, old & new, in each of her "new homes".  She loved change in her life and was known to have an exceptional memory.

She was an amazing woman in a lot of ways. As a teenager she won the broad jump at the Amarillo Sandies Relays. In her 40s and 50s she never missed a Chieftain football game. In later years she enjoyed working at Camp New Dawn in Ceta Canyon and traveling with a group from Friona State Bank going to Austria, Switzerland, Germany, & Italy. She went white water river rafting in Canada, and climbed to the snow line on Mt. Hood in her 80s and 90s. She loved to "go" and "do". She enjoyed spending fun times with her grandchildren including baby & teenage sitting with them for their parents. She joined in riding their "hot wheels", snow sledding, Indian leg wrestling, going down water slides, and attending their games, activities, weddings, and watching their families grow. She was known to wear a tee shirt stating, "This is not my first rodeo"!

She lived life to its fullest, was loved by many and will be missed by those whose lives she touched.  Many touched hers!  Special people are too numerous to mention!

Those in her family left with memories of her include: her daughter Adelle Clements, Hereford; sons Mike and wife Debbie Smith, Nocona; and Danny and wife Adabeth Smith, Friona. Grandchildren include: Brett, Chad, Robin; Melissa, Jenifer; Dana, Steven, Amy; great-granchildren are Kyndall, Griffen; Alex, Cade; Lauren, Luke, Landry; Hunter, Ashton; Riley, Emma; Jordan; Kirstie, Daniel; Tara; and two great-great granddaughters, Violet and Iris!  Also added to her family through the years were loved In-laws: Julie, Casey, Travis; Eudon; Ron, Tammy, Kris, and Jake.

The family appreciates your remembrances and suggests memorials to the Methodist Church, or a church/nursing home/charity meaningful to you.
