Juanita Higgins, 92, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in Dimmitt, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Bushart officiating. Burial to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford. Viewing and Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements and Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

Juanita was born on April 16, 1931, in Hardeman County to Walter and Artie (Morrison) Frost. She married Ted Higgins on September 7, 1947, in Hereford. They were married 76 years.

Juanita was a housewife and mother to her husband and three sons and later worked many years as the Deaf Smith County Judge's Assistant and a Deputy in the Deaf Smith County Clerk's office. After retirement she worked as a seasonal scale house attendant for Holly Sugar Corporation. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Good Sam's RV Club. In her leisure, Juanita enjoyed cooking and baking and shared that joy with her boys and grandchildren. She loved to make her chocolate frosted brownies for friends and family and homemade birthday cakes for her family. Juanita also enjoyed volunteering She was a Certified American Red Cross Swim teacher in summers for many years.  She also enjoyed going to the casinos every chance she could, playing dominoes with her Senior Citizens lunch table friends, and traveling with Ted during their retirement. Her favorite place was the Pendaries RV Resort in New Mexico.

Juanita was affectionately known as "Gummer" and later "Gummler" to her granddaughter Micha the first grandchild. Through the years and 2 additional grandchildren Jeffrey and Catherine, her name took on additional pronunciations of their own (Gammer) which carried over to their friends and her great-granddaughters. However it was pronounced, she loved her grandchildren dearly and spending time with them, spoiling them and always had a stock of suckers from the bank to give them. Juanita was honest with her feelings, had the best intentions for her family, and would go to any lengths to make things happen for the people she loved.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Michael Higgins and his wife Deborah of Amarillo, Texas and Daniel Higgins and his wife Vicky of Hereford, Texas; three grandchildren, Micha Higgins of Pickerington, Ohio, Jeff Higgins and his wife Hollie of Argyle, Texas, and Catherine Wieck and her husband Ryan of Umbarger, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Campbell and Ellyse Higgins, and Callie and Charleigh Bullard; and a sister-in-law, Alberta Cantwell of Benson, Arizona.

She is preceded in death by parents, her husband Ted, son Patrick Higgins, twin sister Jeneva Higgins, sisters Joyce Henson and Edna Anders, and brothers Jeff Frost and James Frost.
