Josué "Papo" Peña Gamez passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 79. A Memorial Service honoring Josué will be held at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Lorenzo Martinez officiating. The Gamez family has entrusted Funeral Services to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.

Josué was born to his parents, Baldomero Nanez and Abundia (Peña) Gamez on August 6, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas. Josué was a long time Hereford resident and worked as a supervisor for Holly Sugar for several years. He also owned and operated Margarita's Café in Kyle, Texas. He was always a jack of all trades and had a tremendous work ethic. A man who worked with his hands is a true laborer. Josué had rough working hands as he worked very hard over the years for his loving family. "If you got it, then you got it". Josue had "it". Josué enjoyed tending to his gardens and fishing even though he couldn't swim. His favorite actor was John Wayne. He loved to watch his favorite shows Walker, Texas Ranger, old westerns, Bonanza and Rifleman. He enjoyed doing arts and crafts.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his children, Carlos Gamez, Nani Gamez all of Saltillo, Mexico, Janie Kauffman and her husband Josh of Amarillo, Texas, Kimberly Gamez of Kenedy, Texas, Robert Lee Treviño, Sr. of Midland, Texas. His stepchildren Mary Bustamante of Uvalde, Texas, Lolie Perez and her husband Rick of Uvalde Texas, Amos Treviño and wife Janet of Floresville, Texas. His grandchildren, Anthony, Evan, Alex, Joshua M., Margarit-Dolores, Genesis, Robert Jr., Joshua R., Marcos, J.D., Cruz, Reyna, Janice, Lorena, Elizabeth, Raquel, Ricky, Jason, Gilbert, Adrian, Marcy and Melissa, a whole lot of great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him in passing his wife Margarita Gamez; his parents Baldomero Nanez and Abundia Gamez; his son Josue Gamez, Jr; all of his loving siblings.
