Jose Guadalupe Gonzales of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 80.

Jose was born on April 26, 1945, in Sinton, Texas, to Isidro and Onessima (Silvas) Gonzales. He married Juanita Mendez in 1969 in Hereford and was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He spent most of his career as a meat cutter for various companies, including Safeway, Fiesta, Taylor and Sons, and Walmart. Jose owned JoJo's Wishing Well dance hall in Hereford, where he booked bands for performances.

Jose cherished moments with his family and enjoyed listening to all types of music, impressively knowing the lyrics to every song. He took pleasure in grilling outdoors with a cold refreshment in hand while sharing stories. Known for his many sayings, Jose was friendly to everyone and deeply committed to his family. Together with Juanita, he delighted in raising their children, grandchildren, and adopted children, always sharing affection by lovingly bickering and teasing one another.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Juanita Gonzales of Hereford, Texas; son JoJo Gonzales and his wife Brandi of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Francisco Mercado, Jazmine Mercado (Kage Monroe), Daphne Mercado (Gavin Urbanczyk), Arron Gonzales, Marissa Gonzales, and Annalis Gonzales; adopted children, Gloria Preciado of Amarillo, Texas and her children Kalvin Preciado (Jenyfer) and Alexa Davis, Klyzz Urbina of Amarillo, Texas and her children Amyiah and Kannon Urbina, and Rolando Guerra of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He is preceded in death by his parents Isidro and Onessima Gonzales, daughter Yvonne Mercado, brother Jose Angel Gonzales, and sisters Teresa and Aurelia Gonzales.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Shane Wieck as celebrant. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home in Hereford.

Family and Friend Visitation will be on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM with the Rosary/Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 PM
