John Washington, 98, longtime resident of Hereford, Texas passed away on October 5, 2020 in Lubbock, Texas. Cremation Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Family to bury cremains at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later day and time.

John was born on June 7, 1922 to George and Ethel (Lott) Washington in San Antonio, Texas. He attended public school in the South San area of San Antonio. He was baptized Pentecostal at an early age and later baptized by the Catholic Church. John lived many years between the Valley (Edinburg, Texas) and Hereford before permanently residing in Hereford for these past 22 years. John served in the Military, US Army as a supply clerk and during that time he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. John was a "Jack of all Trades," and worked as a cab driver; owned a café; long haul truck driver for Louis and Paul Hooge for which he named two of his sons after; he worked closely with Mr. Frye of Hereford for whom he sold produce (cabbage and onions); and worked with Bill and Donna at the car lot in Hereford. John loved traveling, some points of interest were Hawaii and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He also loved going to the casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, Albuquerque and Hobbs, New Mexico. One of his other interest was playing Bingo which he enjoyed up through his final year here with us.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Guadalupe "Lupe" (Mendoza) Washington; children: John Clyde Washington, Jr., Paul Washington and his wife Rose, Juanita Taylor and her husband William, Louis Washington and his wife Barbara, Beverly Shepherd and her husband Michael all of San Antonio, TX, John Clyde Washington III of McAllen, TX, and Mark Washington and his wife Gloria of Hereford, TX; daughter in-law Bettie of San Antonio, TX; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings: Terrell "Bubba" Washington of San Antonio, TX and Oral Washington of Sacramento, CA.

John has joined his parents; son Irving Washington, Sr.; siblings: Luther, Alvin, Darnel, Morrell, Terry, Jerrell, Maynard, Henry, and Melba.
