John Poindexter, 91, of Hereford, Texas passed away Monday, May 10, 2021 in Hereford. Funeral services will be Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Flickinger officiating. Graveside services will be Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing and visitation will be Friday, May 14, 2021 at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM up until service time at 11:00 AM.

John was born December 6, 1929 in Oplin, Texas to John and Eva (Williams) Poindexter. John has been a resident of Hereford since 1968. He married Teddie Katherine Howell on November 25, 1953 in Canyon, Texas. John coached at Hereford Junior High for 5 years and then he became the administrator at Aikman Elementary till his retirement in 1990, being employed for Hereford ISD for 38 years. John was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Hereford, State Teachers Association, National Educator Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Golden Spread Wood Carvers and Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. John and his wife Teddie enjoyed traveling to many wonderful areas of the world, such as, Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Canada and took a tour of the National Parks. John loved to fish, and wood carve. Some of the  items he carved were Indian heads, gnome homes and relief carvings.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Teddie Poindexter of Hereford, TX., a son Terry Poindexter of Aurora, CO., and a daughter Barbara Manahan and her husband Steve of Lubbock, TX., his sister Izora Poteet of Tow, TX., 5 grandchildren Stephanie and Chelsea both of Lubbock, TX., Mike of San Antonio, TX., Dan of Aurora, CO., and Ashley of Denver, CO., and 3 great grandchildren all of Lubbock, TX.

John will be joining his parents, 2 brothers Charlie and Ernest Poindexter, 5 sisters Lorene, Annie, Naomi, Veda and Virginia, a great granddaughter Aniyah Allen and a daughter-in-law Polly Poindexter in heaven.
