John "Big John" Valdez, 65, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Hereford, Texas. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Genesis Church with Pastor Daniel Romero officiating. Burial of Cremains will follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

John was born on May 9, 1957, in Hereford, Texas, to Santiago and Costancia (Guardiola) Valdez. John was a proud lifelong resident of Hereford. He worked for many feed yards in the Hereford area and loved his job. He was a hard worker and had many titles over the years, including assistant manager, cattle doctor, and head bull reader. John enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking out, fishing, camping, playing dominoes, poker, Loteria, and lottery tickets. He was also a Dallas Cowboys Fan. He loved birds and raised many show pigeons, his favorite being the Jacobin pigeon. He also enjoyed traveling to different lakes to fish. John was the cornerstone of his family, a loving man with a big heart who taught his children to love God and put Him first.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Michelle Valdez and her husband Robert Flores Jr. of Hereford, Texas,  Anita Valdez Perez and her husband Alonzo of Hereford, Texas, Johnny Fuentes and his wife Mickayla Martinez of Littlefield, Texas, and Michael Fuentes and his wife Denika of Odessa, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, Bobby Valdez and Albert Valdez both of Hereford, Texas, sisters, Carol Ruiz and her husband Juan Ruiz Jr. and Regina Valdez both of Hereford, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Costancia Valdez, and a sister Corena Garcia.
