John Arthur Curtis, 69, of Hereford, TX, passed away on September 5th, 2025, surrounded by his immediate family.

John was born December 22,1955 in Emporia, KS, the son of Gene and Patricia Curtis and the oldest of 4 siblings, Charles, Debra, and Steve.

John graduated from Sunray High School in 1974, attended Dallas Baptist University, and transferred to Wayland Baptist University, where he met the love of his life.

John and Beverly Auten were married on August 6, 1977, at First Baptist Church, Hereford, TX. John and Beverly were married for 48 years and had two children, Emily Irene and Philip Carl.

John worked many jobs, but most remember his time at Carl McCaslin Lumber, Oglesby Equipment, and Hereford Hardware.

John especially loved his Granddaughters, singing hymns, reading his Bible, playing cards, dominoes, visiting with friends and family, all while maintaining an unmatched level of orneriness.

John was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church when he responded to the Lord's call to ministry. He followed in obedience to Temple Baptist Church and Frio Baptist Church where he served as bi-vocational Minister of Music for a combined 25 years. Following his time in the ministry he and Beverly joined Avenue Baptist Church. John lived life on call welcoming the lost, loving his neighbors, and sharing the Gospel.

Remaining to cherish John's memory are his wife, Beverly; children, Emily Wade and husband Aaron, Philip Curtis and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Grace Marie Wade and Norah Kay Curtis; brothers, Charles and Steve Curtis; and sister, Debra Curtis.

Preceding John in death are his parents, Gene and Patricia Curtis.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 6pm - 8pm at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2pm at Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow at West Park Cemetery.

In place of flowers, memorial donations in John's memory may be directed to Avenue Baptist Church.
