Joe Gomez Castillo, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the San Jose Catholic Church at 2:00 PM with Celebrant Roman Molina officiating. A burial will follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services are entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 4:00-8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Joe was born in Taylor, Texas to his loving parents, Tan Castillo and Ramona (Gomez) Castillo on September 4, 1942. Joe was a long-time resident of Hereford since 1965, at the age of sixteen he started working as a truck driver in the agriculture industry. He retired in 2002 from Bar G Feedyard and Cattle Drive.

Joe loved his family dearly, and loved them all the same, instilling in them, "never turn your back on the one that is the weakest", and he impressed on them many other lessons, hard work, nothing is ever given to you, you work for it; teaching them to live well, love others and most importantly to love each other. Joe enjoyed spending quality time with his family in the backyard sharing stories and jokes; Joe was known in the Castillo family as the "Hollywood Movie Star". In Joe's younger days he was a boxer, even during his final days he would pretend to be boxing. He was a Trump supporter and was very fond of Fox News. Joe took much pride in being an American, he would tell his family stories of his father being a Veteran and all the hardships they endured during many times throughout his life. He took pleasure in watching Old Western's with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and often recited the saying, "Well I'll Be A Dirty Dog". Joe's presence, smile, laughter, and many other of his family's favorites will be missed dearly.

Those left to carry on his legacy and cherish his memories are his children, Joe Castillo, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, Danny Castillo, Richard Castillo, Diane Castillo, and Estella Rodriguez and her husband Augustine all of Hereford, Texas, Christine Porras and her husband Saul of Dumas, Texas, and Gilbert Castillo of Dalhart, Texas; his sibling, Emma, Yolanda, Sylvia and Cisco; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Those preceding him in passing are his wife, Angelita Castillo; his parents, Tan Castillo and Ramona (Gomez) Castillo; his son, Augustine Castillo; his grandchildren, Blake Castillo, Agustin Rodriguez, III, and Daelyen Rodriguez; his great-great-grandson Carlos Daniel Beltran, Jr.; his siblings, Jesse Lee Castillo, Tan Castillo, Jr., Henry Castillo, Fred Castillo, Frank Castillo, Roseldo Castillo, and Rose Mary.
