Joaquin V. Gamez, 74, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Hereford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the Avenue Baptist Church in Hereford, with Pastor Alonzo Garcia officiating. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. A Family and Friend Viewing and Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Joaquin was born on November 6, 1949, in Hereford to Horace and Maria de Jesus (Valdez) Gamez. He was a lifelong resident of Hereford and a 1969 Hereford High School Graduate. Joaquin continued his education at West Texas A & M College and in 1972 began his Masonry trade. In 1990 he started Joaquin Gamez Masonry Construction Company.  Joaquin married Gloria (Martinez) Gamez in 2001.

Joaquin "Boss Man" was hardworking, business oriented, and proud of his work. He was dedicated to his family and his job. Joaquin loved the men who helped him build numerous businesses, schools, and homes around the Texas panhandle and other states, because of their help he was a respected, trusted, and successful businessman.  He was a huge Dallas Cowboys Fan and enjoyed watching football. Joaquin was easy going, sincere, loving, caring, and had a big heart. He was a man of few words, who showed his love, care, and respect through action, always putting others first. Joaquin always told his children, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself" and taught them to keep moving forward accepting things the way they are, living one day at a time.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Gloria Gamez of Hereford, Texas; children, Robert Gamez of Hereford, Texas, Annette Gamez of Sonora, Texas, Melinda Gamez of Amarillo, Texas, Christal Lopez and her husband Teddy of Lufkin, Texas, Michael Ainslie of Lufkin, Texas, and Veronica Nix of Greenville, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Castro, Danielle Castro, Aiden Castro, Neelie Gamez, Isaac Gamez, Cailey Ainslie, Erika Lopez, Trey Ibarra, Hannah Lopez, Joseph Lopez, Jett Lopez, Miranda Nix, Lina Nix, Dexter Nix, Greyson Ainslie, Aubrey Weber, and Ethan Weber; great-grandchildren,  Nova, Dakota and Wyatt Watson, and Emery Lopez; siblings, Ismael Gamez of Hereford, Texas, Benjamin Gamez and his wife Frances of Phoenix, Arizona, James Gamez and his wife Mely of Hereford, Texas, and Consuelo "Connie" Balderaz and her husband Jody of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Maria de Jesus Gamez, and siblings Isais Gamez, Antulio Gamez, Noemi Aguirre, Servio Gamez, and Mitzi Gonzales.
