JoAnne Burfield Averett, age 77, passed away peacefully with her daughter, Michele, by her side on Saturday, November 26, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 2:00PM at the Mendez & Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nathan Adams of the First Baptist Church of Hereford officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Mendez & Mullins Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.
JoAnne was born April 16, 1945, in Littlefield, Texas to Joe Reese Fite and Marion Alline Davis Fite in Littlefield, Texas. She married Charles David Burfield in November of 1963 in Plainview, Texas. They had two children, Michele and David Dean. They owned and ran a successful business, Charlie's Tire Company in Hereford until his death, December of 1997.
JoAnne relocated to Amarillo and found her love, Paul Averett. Together, they enjoyed life of friends and family. She enjoyed traveling to see family, watching Westerns, and a great deal of shopping and decorating the house, especially for each holiday.
JoAnne was dedicated mother and grandmother. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as MomMo. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. Her life was a loving example of the Bible verse, Ephesians4:32-----"And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Virgie, first husband- Charlie, and son, David Dean Burfield.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Paul Averett of Amarillo, a daughter, Michele and her husband, Bryan Mappe of Friendswood, Texas. Judy and Walter Daniels of Amarillo, Ken Averett and Craig Averett of Lubbock, and Karen and Jim Neal of Tennessee. Grandchildren includes David Lee Burfield of Amarillo, Kyle Tanner Burfield of Pennsylvania, Alexis Alyce Burfield of Amarillo, Tyler and Kait of Austin, Trevor and Alyssa of Friendswood, and Trey Mappe of Friendswood, Lizzy Neal of Tennessee.
