Jesse "El Rey" A. Zepeda, Sr.,72, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrants Nick Gerber and Ramon Molina officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home with rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.

Jesse was born April 10, 1949, in Pleasanton, Texas to Gregory and Florence (Alderete) Zepeda. Jesse has been a resident of Hereford since his early childhood. He married the love of his life Mary Munoz Zepeda on August 19, 1972, in Hereford, Texas at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Jesse enlisted in the United States Army on April 7, 1969 and was Honorably Discharged by President Nixon on April 6, 1975.  He has been an electrician all his adult life; Jesse also enjoyed raising cattle on his ranch. Jesse enjoyed watching boxing, western movies, and the "Price is Right" and listening to his Mexican and Country music. He genuinely enjoyed everything about being outdoors and nature; the sun, the stars and everything Mother Nature has created. Jesse played on a minor league baseball team as a pitcher in his younger days. He was a simple, Christian, wise, knowledgeable, perfectionist, straight forward man, with much love, care, and concern for his family. He always made sure his family, especially his children and grandchildren were taken care of; he still checked in with his grown, adult children and wanted them checking in with him just to make sure they were all safe. Jesse had a "Big" faith and knew his bible; he had a very private and personal relationship with his Lord. Jesse loved his wife's cooking, especially her pork chops and french fries; that he had to have once a week and her carne guisada and papas. Jesse always had his cooler filled with his favorite beverages, Natural Light and Budweiser. His wife and children will remember him by the love he had for them, his jokester ways and all the many good times and laughs he has left them.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary E. (Munoz) Zepeda of Hereford, TX., his children, Lisa Garcia and her husband Oscar of Amarillo, TX., Florence Gaytan and her husband Joel of Hereford, TX., Theresa Lucero and her husband Roy and Jesse Zepeda, Jr. all of Amarillo, TX., and Elizabeth Cruz and her husband Conrado of Ft. Worth, TX., 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his siblings, Amelia Frausto, Gregory Zepeda, Mingo Zepeda, Ralph Zepeda, Linda Porras, Delia Garcia, Robert Zepeda, Janie Ortiz, Abel Felix Zepeda all of Hereford, TX., Gloria Saucido of Amarillo, TX., David Zepeda and Juan Zepeda both of Arlington, TX. Raymond Zepeda of Wolfforth, TX., and Mary Rose Gavina of Levelland, TX.

Jesse will be joining his parents, a granddaughter, Savannah Alexis Zepeda and his brothers, Felix, Abel, Joe, and Tony Zepeda in heaven.
