Jerry Dean "Bam Bam" Heggestad, 48, lifelong resident of Hereford passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 in Plainview. Funeral services will be Monday at 3:00 PM at Victory Family Worship Center of Hereford with Pastor Lorenzo Martinez officiating. Cremation services are being handled by Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Family and friend visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jerry was born in Hereford, Texas to Betty and Gary Heggestad on January 14, 1969, following his mother's passing, five- year old Jerry was adopted by his maternal grandparents, Elgin and Coy Moore of Hereford. Jerry was a lifetime resident of Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School in 1987 he attended West Texas University and played cello for two years with the Amarillo Symphony from 1986-1987. One of his earliest dreams was to drive the big trucks just like his dad Elgin. He was successful, and was a truck driver for the majority of his life. He named himself "BAM BAM" and it was only this year that Denise, his wife, found out why-"BAM" was his mother's initial Betty Ann Moore. He married Denise Leingang, of Dimmitt, on September 4, 1992. They celebrated their 25th anniversary recently at a Dallas Cowboys game-another of Jerry's dreams.

Jerry worked for Petroleum Transport out of Lubbock. He enjoyed golf, bowling and took every opportunity to work with kids. He coached softball with Kids, Inc. and with the coed softball league with church and assisted with Boy Scouts. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his brothers and sisters in Christ at Victory Family Worship in Hereford. Helping to raise his grandchildren was clearly at the top of the list. Jerry's heart was as big as Texas. He was loyal, giving and incredibly loving. He was an incredible husband, father, son, brother and best friend and neighbor you could ask for. His legacy is his family and friends who are better for having known him. He lived and loved each day of his life to the fullest and no kinder man ever lived. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Denise Heggestad of Hereford, three daughters, April Howell and husband Thomas of Dimmitt, Robyn Heggestad and Cheyenne Heggestad both of Hereford, his mother, Coy Moore of Hereford, his step-mother, Darlene Heggestad of Iowa, five grandchildren, brothers, Randy Moore of Hereford, Lynn, Mark and Brad Heggestad of Minnesota, numerous cousins, Aunt Judy, several other aunts and uncles and a lifetime of friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty, his father, Gary, his dad, Elgin Moore, brother, Ricky Moore and three uncles, Donnie, Frank and Lucky Moore.
