Janie Zepeda, 67, a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, in Dimmitt, Texas. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Victory Family Worship Center with Pastor Lorenzo Martinez officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 1:30-8:00PM at the funeral home.

Janie was born May 5, 1954, in Hereford, Texas, to Juan and Teresa (Gonzales) Barela. Janie has been a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas. Janie taught at the Texas Migrant Council (TMC) for 10 years, then later working as a cook at King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home from 1985-2000, retiring after 15 years of being employed. She met and fell in love with Domingo Zepeda, Sr. in 1995 and they married in 2005. Janie enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casinos, family gatherings at her home, talking on the phone to family and friends, joking around and making everyone laugh; Janie especially loved all her grandchildren, baking her special Friendship Bread, that she would send to her son in Iraq, her "carne guisada", riding around listening to Ramon Ayala's music, and she enjoyed going to garage sales. Janie never met a stranger; she was the ultimate social butterfly and the life of the party.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Domingo Zepeda, Sr. of Hereford, Texas, her children Michelle Vera and her husband Robert, Jake Mendoza and his wife Rosa, Christopher Mendoza and his wife DeeDee all of Hereford, Texas, Domingo Zepeda, Jr. and his wife Irene of Arlington, Texas, Lewis Zepeda and his wife Esther of California, Priscilla Zepeda and her husband Scott Lynch of El Paso, Texas, and Megan Gutierrez of Hereford, Texas, her siblings Dale Potter of Oklahoma City, OK., Irene Vigil and her husband Maurice of Boulder, CO., Nora Dawson of Helotes, Texas, Judy Samniego and Terrie Alcala both of Amarillo, Texas, Linda Reyna of Cibolo, Texas, Tiny Tijerina and her husband Joe and Mary Rocha and her husband Roger all of Hereford, Texas, Molly Navarro and her husband Jesse of Amarillo, Texas and Larry Barela of Schertz, Texas, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Janie is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Daniel and Leo Barela.
