Jane G. Alvarez, 81, of Hereford, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home in Hereford, Texas, with Pastor Ruben Coronado officiating. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

Viewing will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the funeral home, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.

Jane was born on September 13, 1944, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Florencio and Ramona Gonzales. She made Hereford her home for approximately 60 years. At the age of 14, she began working in the bodegas in Hereford, and in her younger years she enjoyed traveling before marriage and children became the center of her life.

Jane was a professional seamstress known for her beautiful, tailored wedding dresses, quinceañera dresses, and clothing she lovingly sewed for many others.

Jane married the love of her life, Jose Alvarez, in 1974 in Hereford, Texas. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with family, care, and devotion.

Jane loved to cook and care for her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was joyful, loving, and kindhearted, with a heart of gold. She treated others with fairness and warmth, and her presence, love, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Jane is survived by her husband, Jose Alvarez of Hereford, Texas; her children, June Pesina Torres of San Antonio, Texas, and John Pesina III and wife Jessica of Lubbock, Texas; her sisters, Bertha Hernandez and husband Joe of Dallas, Texas, Betty Jean Hernandez and husband Lino of Dallas, Texas, and Debbie Martinez and husband Vince of Amarillo, Texas; and her brother, Florencio Gonzales Jr. and wife Rilla of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by her granddaughters, April Pesina and Neydene Torres, along with several nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Gamboa; and her brother, Richard Gonzales.
