It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, Jacob Douglas Northcutt, 70, whose kindness, humor, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Nazarene Family Church of Hereford, Texas, with Donny Henson and Pastor Ted Taylor officiating. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A family and friend visitation will be on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jake was born on October 14, 1955, in Friona, Texas. He attended Hereford High School and graduated with the Class of 1974. Following high school, Jake served his country in the United States Navy.

As a young man, Jake worked in the oil fields before settling down and beginning the chapter of his life that meant the most to him—his family.

Jake married Cathy (Hampton) on February 1, 1983. Together, they built a life and were blessed with two children, Matthew and Amy.

Jake was bigger than life. He had a way of making his presence known wherever he went, and he never met a stranger. He was funny, kindhearted, and unapologetically himself. He loved his family deeply and was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. To know Jake was to have a story about Jake—and those stories will be told, laughed about, and treasured for years to come.

You simply couldn’t think of Jake without thinking of a bicycle. If the weather was halfway decent, chances were Jake was out riding somewhere. He put countless miles behind him from all over the country over the years, creating lifelong friendships along the way. His bicycle was just part of him. It brought him happiness, freedom, and probably more stories than we could ever count. Seeing Jake on two wheels was simply seeing Jake being Jake.

Above all, he loved the Lord with all his heart. His faith was a steady part of his life and something he carried with him wherever he went. He knew where his hope and salvation were found.

Jake was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Cathy Northcutt; His mother, Avis Blakey father, Johnnie Northcutt: his brothers, Johnny and Tim Northcutt; and his nephew, Jeremy Schumacher.

He is survived by his son, Matthew Northcutt of Arizona; his daughter, Amy, and her husband Quentin Stover of Canyon, Texas; his two grandchildren, Grant (8) and Barrett (6) Northcutt; his sister, Janie, and her husband, John Schumacher, of Hereford, Texas; as well as extended family and countless friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.

Jake leaves behind a space that can never truly be filled, but he also leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, love, and memories that his family and friends will carry with them always.

And as Jake always said, “It’s all good.”
