Irene "Granny" Limas, 86, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 in Amarillo, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Hereford, Texas with Pastor Chris Flickinger officiating, burial to follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 1:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 P.M.

Irene was born on October 20, 1934 to Baldomero and Abundia (Peña) Gamez in Norton, Texas. She has been a resident of Hereford since 1948. Irene married Alfonso Limas, Sr. on September 18, 1955. She was a hardworking woman. As a widowed mom she raised eight children and many grandchildren.  She worked as a Dietitian at West Gate for 28 years. Irene was an amazing cook, making all of her food from scratch. She is known for her enchiladas, empanadas, cornbread, chocolate and coffee cake, lemon meringue pie and so many more wonderful foods. She loved to read the reader's digest and any book that was given to her. She was a Mickey Mouse and Salt and Pepper Shaker collector.  She has salt and pepper shakers from many different states and countries. Irene was known for her jump roping skills and taught her children and grandchildren how to jump rope. She loved music, dancing, and enjoyed listening to Tom Jones and Neil Diamond. She had a beautiful voice and was always singing or humming. Irene had a great personality; she was witty, sarcastic, and modest.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Virginia Nuñez and her husband Alfred of Mansfield, TX., Martha Limas of Hereford, TX., Mercedes Limas of Amarillo, TX., Annette Villarreal and her husband Danny of Hereford, TX., Alfonso Limas, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Arlington, TX., Louis Limas and his wife Jennifer of Euless, TX., twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren, sister Elva Garcia of Hereford, TX., brother Josué Gamez of Midland, TX., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfonso, Sr., daughter Janie Niño, son Santiago Limas, brothers Leandro Gamez, Miguel Gamez, Refugio Gamez, and Fernando Gamez, sisters Angelina Garcia, Antonia Garcia, and Guadalupe Zapata, grandchildren Angela and Jessica Limas, and great-great grandchild Rudy Isaiah Ruiz.
